HARMONY | MELODY | LYRICS | STRUCTURE | RHYTHM
There are a billion ways to start a song, and most of them are crap.
Sure we can use thesauruses, word generators and algorithms to come up with ideas for us, but the results are rarely good and never great.
...which is why I spent a good two years of my life collecting ideas and printing them on cards.
And now you can use these cards to come up with ideas for your songs instantly.
Every single word, phrase, chord progression, kick or snare drum pattern - they're all curated by a human being (me), meaning all the crap has been weeded out.
To make sure that you'll be able to use the songwriting decks YOUR way, most of the exercises that come with the decks are centered around combining two or more cards - which leads to billions and billions of possible combinations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know music theory?
There's 21 exercises crammed into these cards and most of them don't use music theory.
Here's the ones that do and how:
HARMONY: The exercise Kiss of the Chords requires you to understand Chord Degrees (ii, IV, etc) - but if you don't know what that means, the deck tells you exactly what each degree stands for (see The Chord Builder in the booklet).
MELODY: Melody notation - This is the one exercise that you will probably need to know how to read music for. Luckily, there's 4 more exercises on these decks.
RHYTHM: The exercise Signature Please requires you to know what a signature is (duh-doy!). For Poly Me This, you need to know polyrhythms (but there is a link to an online tool in the manual). For Rhythmic Bits, you need to be able to read simple rhythmic notation. And for Rhythm Overlays you need to know that a 4/4 is divided into 8 eighth notes.
What skill level / musical style is this for?
With 21 exercises, there's truly something for everyone. From simpler exercises like Lacking Lines and Snare Patterns (marked as 1-stars in the booklet) to heavy hitters like Metaphor Jam and Feedback Friday (3-stars).
How do the decks improve my songwriting?
Each deck trains you in one specific area: Chords, Melodies, Rhythms, Structure and Lyrics.
Take on a different exercise every day and work in ways you hadn't thought of before, helping you make new connections and seeing the old in new light.
Some of the exercises are specifically designed to challenge you (Prompts, Object Writing, Feedback Friday, Pitch Please, The Counter Chorus, Signature Please, Poly Me This, the 130%), others are there to train your musicality (Object Writing, The Chord Builder) and some are there to get ideas quickly and reliably (Lacking Lines, Key Cards, Crosswords, Kiss of the Chords, Madlibbin' Melodies, Melody Outlines, Rhythmic Bits, Snare Patterns, Rhythm Overlays).
Do you ship to _____?
We're very sorry, but if your country is not listed, unfortunately, we can't ship to your location! Maybe try shipping to a friend in another country?
How difficult are these exercises?
As difficult as you want to make them. You can combine exercises to make a challenge more challenging, or if you don't like an idea, simply draw another card to make things easier for yourself.
Maybe you want to challenge yourself every day with the decks. Maybe you'll just use it to come up with initial ideas for your songs. Or maybe you'll only use it when you're stuck. There is no wrong way to use the decks - it's YOUR tool.
